I agree that the haulers should have a clear chance to provide curbside without the bins providing competition. To the person who needs more pickup because of the amount of recyclables: Good for you for recycling so assiduously! What will you do if the bin service IS ended? Please don't say you'll just put it in the trash!!
I would prefer the bins stay in place, even if the number were reduced to compensate for the haulers handling some of the recycling.
At this point, as a renter in Charleston, I am unaware if my property management's hauler will also be providing a recycling option. I doubt we will have an additional dumpster in our parking lot. I am concerned that if they don't, I will not have a place to recycle at all.
The city's cost for the recycle bins should be reduced due to people who take advantage of curbside recycling because the bins shouldn't need changed out nearly as often. I feel it's important that we keep the bins available to those who need to use them. Or are we just a little backwards compared to the City of Mattoon who plans to keep them available even though they have curbside also. Where can I sign a petition to keep the recycle bins ?
Having the bins available has spurred my recycling to the point that I have very little left to be hauled away to a landfill. I've even started composting. If the bins are removed, what choice will have but to go back to almost two full cans of waste a week. My service has no future plans to initiate recycling pick up in the country. I understand the cities concerns, but believe the county should also be responsible to help offset the cost of providing these bins?
I think they should stay because the haulers aren't offering an appropriate service. they are only offering once every other week and with a family of five, that just isn't enough. We fill about 2 trash cans with recyclables weekly, so it would really pile up with every other week pickup. If the haulers would offer weekly pick up, I would pay for it, but if they just remove the bins, I will take as much as I can to mattoon and will have to throw away the rest. it's very discouraging to have such limited options.

I think it's fair to give the private haulers a chance without the competition of the free bins.
I'd like to see them stay because the trash hauler isn't providing enough pickup for my recyclables.

Big Al ~ Could you contact your apartment manager and see if they're open to recycling?
